Thanks everyone for the comments! I do realize how blessed my sister and I are :-) I'll post more on this once we go to a lawyer and finalize things. My estimated costs may be way out in left field, we'll see.
While I have no mortgage and no rent, I do trade off some (a lot of?) privacy. It seems there's nothing I can do that my sister doesn't know about (and vice versa) and my parents, especially my dad, come and go as they please. 99.9% of the time it's not bad, but every once in a while I'd like to have my very own space... but that comes with a price too. I'm sure I could find it in my budget to pay up to $600-$800/month in rent and associated bills, but it would probably mean finding a full time job I don't like so much.
2009's definitely going to be a year of changes :-)

What an opportunity!! :-)
I hope the process goes nice and smooth for you!
I totally understand with the privacy thing. Maybe you could lock yourself in your room once in a while? :)

This is a GREAT idea to have this done while your parents are still alive. I work with an estate attorney, and things can get completely messed up after the fact. Also, there are numerous tax advantages this way.
You don't have to stay in this home forever, but it is a nice asset to have.
I, too, love working part time. It would be hard for me (especially with the kids) to go to work fulltime. I feel blessed as well.
